Realtor Requirements in Texas
I never thought it would be easy, but I did think the classes would be faster to get through. It’s taken me over a year to finish the classes. I started in August of 2021, and now I have two and a half notebooks full of everything you never wanted to know about real estate. I’m so close! Got to keep pushing through!
Here’s a little run-down of what is required to become an agent in Texas:
Texas requires 6 pre-license classes for real estate. I chose to take mine online with Aceable Agent, because they were more reasonably priced. There are plenty of options out there, just do a quick google search. There are even in-person classes if that’s more to your preference.
The required classes are as follows:
Principles of Real Estate I
Principles of Real Estate II
Law of Agency
Real Estate Finance
Law of Contracts
Promulgated Contracts
After each course you have to take a proctored exam. You must have a camera on your computer to do this. It was weird at first, but I got used to it. To study for the exams, Aceable provides practice tests under their Resources tab, as well as access to Quizlet. I utilized both resources and I have aced all my tests so far.
Then you must apply with TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission):
Sign up to take the exam.
Get your fingerprints taken for your background check.
What comes next?
Well, I know I have to study for the big state exam. But what I’m not quite sure about is, should I be interviewing brokerages now? Or should I wait until I take the exam? One thing I did do this morning, was spruce up my resume. Anyway, stay tuned. In the meantime I will keep studying, get my resume peer reviewed, and ask around for advice from some agent friends…
