Catching up…

Good morning! A couple of things to catch up:

I applied with TREC last week

I had one phone meeting with a brokerage!

So, last week I was feeling very low energy; I did not feel like studying…but I thought to myself, I have to keep moving. I have to do something. I decided to apply with TREC. It’s a necessary step anyway before scheduling the exam date and fingerprints because they give you your TREC ID number that you need to do both. The application did not take long at all, in fact, I’d say it took about ten minutes. The current licensing fee here in Texas costs $185.00. So I filled out all of my contact info and paid the fee, then I uploaded all of my class certificates in an email to TREC. Two days later, I received my TREC ID number.

Almost immediately, I also received about three emails from brokerages! I know, I know, I can feel everyone rolling their eyes at my excitement… but I did not know that brokerages get your contact information from TREC! And I never expected brokerages to reach out to me! Now, let me save you all some time from writing any version of the following in the comments to me:

“Of course every brokerage wants you to work with them, it’s not like they’re actually paying you! It’s commission-based; you’re basically starting your own business. Getting in with a brokerage is the easy part. What are you so excited about?!”

I would just like to say in response to that: please, let me have this! I’m coming from a world of having to devote 3 to 4 hours, minimum, filling out an application for a job only to never hear back. It’s frustrating and demoralizing. Now all of a sudden, I have brokerages reaching out to me? I’m going to bask in this for as long as possible.

And anyway, why shouldn’t I be excited? Putting aside the fact that it's easy to join a brokerage, I’m excited about this next stage of my life. Starting a new job, a business, etc. is scary, but also exciting. I know this is the easy part, but I choose to celebrate each step and so should you!

Pro tip: Before signing up with TREC, set up a different email address to use so that you can keep all of the emails you’ll receive from TREC and from brokerages together.
